The backstory
KRUI began broadcasting a talk/news from Ruidoso in 1999 under the corporate management of MTD Inc. and ownership of R.D. Hubbard. In 2019 MTD moved its operations to Lovington, NM with plans to keep broadcasting KRUI from there. Mayor Lynn Crawford had a different idea. He wanted local radio to remain local.
As a result of his efforts, the station and its equipment were donated to the Village of Ruidoso and 1490 KRUI The Mountain was born. You can now join Mayor Crawford for Conversations with the Mayor Mondays from 8:00 – 10:00 AM. He might even tell you about how he talked Mr. Hubbard into donating the station if you call in and ask!
KRUI—The Mountain FM 99.1 - 1490 AM is located at 2811 Sudderth Drive, in the historic Wingfield Heritage House Museum.
