Mondays with the Mayor

March 10, 2025: Guests and Topics Discussed

  • Fire Chief Cade Hall was on this week’s show to discuss raising the Fire Restrictions to Level 2. He highlighted prohibited activities in the Village, including the use of charcoal briquets, outdoor burning stoves, outdoor smoking, and campfires. Hall also encouraged residents to consult Ruidoso-nm.gov for a complete list of fire restrictions.

  • Eric Queller, Emergency Manager, discussed the week’s weather forecast, which predicts red flag conditions on Tuesday. He also emphasized the importance of residents who depend on oxygen or dialysis to sign up for Life Watch through PNM, as Public Safety Power Shutoffs (PSPS) could impact these essential medical devices.

  • Michael Martinez, Deputy Village Manager, provided a brief update on the 100-year floodplain map presentation, which will be presented at this week’s council meeting.

  • Councilor Susan Lutterman stopped by the studio to discuss the new vintage postcard exhibit at Wingfield Heritage House Museum and the last Saturday’s open house. She shared details on how the event was received and the community’s interest in the new display.

  • Eddie Ryan, Manager of Events and Strategic Partnerships, updated listeners on Dead Letters, a movie currently being filmed in the Village. He also mentioned the upcoming docuseries that will document last summer’s Southfork and Salt Fires.

  • Matthew Baird, Director of Parks and Recreation, announced that lifeguard courses have officially started. He also outlined the Park Department’s plans to trim and maintain Village properties, paying special attention to fire season preparations.

  • Police Chief Steve Minner provided insight into a recent bomb threat in Midtown, which was traced to a caller in Denmark. He also described two concerning incidents at the High School last week: a bomb threat and an altercation where a student attacked the High School resource officer.
