August 26, 2024: In this episode, Matthew Baird, Parks & Rec Director and Eddie Ryan, Mgr. of Events & Strategic Partnerships were on the show to talk about the past weekend’s events at Wingfield Park that included free Bar-B-Que, music and drone show. Matthew also discussed the progress of the new playground at School House Park and the cleanup at Two Rivers Park.
Director of Finance, Judy Starkovich, and Water Production Manager, Christella Armijo were in the studio to discuss the increase in the water bills and help explain why the increase was implemented.
Stephanie Long the Wingfield House Museum Curator and Manager was in to announce an opening date and ribbon cutting ceremony for the museum on October 17th. Stephanie also discussed her weekly radio program, Ruidoso Rewind, which airs every Friday at noon on KRUI.
Michael Martinez, Deputy Village Manager, was on to discuss the progress and possible completion date of the upgrades at the Community Center. He also gave an update and progress report on the 603 Mechem housing project which now has 3 homes on the property.
Police Chief Lawrence Chavez talked about his involvement in taking the Legislative Finance Committee on a tour of the fire and flood damage around the Village to help give them a firsthand view of the devastation in the Village.

They emphasized the importance of residents completing the Right of Entry form online for state assistance with debris removal. Deputy Police Chief Minner and Lieutenant Urban introduced and swore in new officer John Lund. Eddie Ryan, Manager of Events & Strategic Partnerships, discussed the Under a Mountain Sky concert series, Xterra and Iron Man events scheduled for 2024 and 2025, and the Jets and Jalopies event in September. The new Community Development Director, Alex Koenig, was also welcomed by the Village staff and community.

Officials are working with state authorities to assess and repair bridges. The Ruidoso Downs Racetrack is relocating to Albuquerque for the season. Police Chief Lawrence Chavez emphasized the importance of mental health during crises. Efforts continue to provide emergency access and long-term flood mitigation solutions.

Adam Sanchez, Public Works Director, was in to talk about the damage to village bridges and roads caused by the severe flooding over the past few weeks. Adam also answered questions from listeners about the water and sewer infrastructure, debris cleanup in culverts, and several questions about problems in the Upper Canyon. Police Chief Lawrence Chavez was in with 2 new officers, Tobias Palmer and Cory Crayton, with introductions and taking their oath of office. Chief Chavez also discussed the murder that occurred last week and the arrest of a suspect in the case.

Also discussed was the struggle for finding a solution for Workforce Housing, water levels at Grindstone and Alto lakes and the possibility of underground storage. Ongoing and upcoming infrastructure projects discussed include the White Mountain Sports Complex Masterplan and properties that the Village has purchased for the plan, a walking trail project from Cedar Creek to the Links, and the expansion of fiber and 5g internet service within the Village.
